AVRH Welcomes New Gastroenterologist

(Las Vegas, NM)-Alta Vista Regional Hospital is pleased to announce its newest member to the medical staff, Joseph Brown, M.D., a gastroenterologist.
As a gastroenterologist, Dr. Brown is a physician with dedicated training and unique experience in the management of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver. To become proficient in the treatment and management of these conditions, a gastroenterologist must undergo training in both internal medicine and advanced training in problems of the digestive tract. Upon completing their training, a gastroenterologist will have had five to six years of additional specialized education following medical school.
Dr. Brown completed his medical degree at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He finished his training with a residency at University of Utah Affiliated Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah and a fellowship in Gastroenterology at University of Utah Medical Center, Division of Gastroenterology. Dr. Brown is board certified by the American Board of Gastroenterology and the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Gastroenterology is the study of the normal function and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gall bladder, bile ducts and liver. It includes common and important conditions such as colon polyps and cancer, hepatitis, gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn), peptic ulcer disease, colitis, gallbladder and biliary tract disease, nutritional problems, Irritable Bowl Syndrome (IBS) and pancreatitis.
